Robert Birming

The digital hermit

I've started moving some blog posts from birming.com, which I feel fit better here at robertbirming.com, where the focus is on more existential texts.

One of these posts is the text Writing without a filter, which mainly discusses how easily one is lured into the trap of chasing clicks.

That got me thinking...

Is that why I started this blog? Is that why I've chosen to keep it so stripped down, perhaps even spartan, without upvotes, pictures, colors, and so on?

A hermit who has sought refuge in his digital cave, adopting an ascetic approach to color and form, a celibacy for stylesheets.

I don't know. Maybe subconsciously.

If so, is that wrong?

I don't think so. If that's what it takes to write honestly without any filters, then it's perfectly fine.

We act according to what we perceive as right, here and now. If, on the other hand, we continue in the same vein out of sheer habit, then we are stagnating.

What is right in this moment? That is the only relevant question.
