Don’t make my blogging mistake

In the post I always come back to blogging, the writer mentions the ups and downs of blogging. The challenges life throws at you, forcing you to prioritize one thing over another.

And just like the title says, it's always possible to get back to blogging when the time is right. It's been the same for me during tough periods in life, and I've always found my way back to running a blog.

Considering my blogging history going back to 2002, there have been quite a few ups and downs along the way. Mostly shorter breaks from blogging, but also one that stretched over several years.

I've learned a lot during all these years. I've written in different languages, published through a bunch of different platforms, developed my coding skills, and hopefully become a somewhat better writer (whatever that means).

But there's one thing that's still haunting me. It's only in the last year or so that this has become slightly better, but it's still lurking in the shadows:

The urge to delete my blog.

I've done it sooooo many times. It's always the same story:

  1. Life becomes challenging.
  2. Something needs to change.
  3. Delete the blog.

Same thing over and over again. And the same result each time. It didn't help, of course.

The behavior is probably somewhat related to my GAD diagnosis, but I think there's more to it than that. I also see the same pattern among other bloggers.

At the end of the day, maybe it comes down to the desire for a push-of-a-button solution when life is testing us.

So if there's one piece of advice I'd give after 20+ years of blogging, both to myself and others, it's this:

Don't delete your blog on a whim.
