Friend or foe?

Rewatched A Star Is Born (2018). Seen it a few times now. Confession: I love those kinds of movies.

Not sure why. Maybe there’s something familiar about them, something that resonates with the darker side of things and is, in a way, illuminated by the encounter.

Maybe creation itself is a way to shed light on that darkness and give it an outlet. Maybe creative people are simply a little closer to it. Or maybe the greater the darkness, the stronger the urge to create.

In any case, should we see darkness as a friend or an enemy? Maybe neither… or both. Duality is everywhere — light and dark, warm and cold, high and low.

The natural instinct, though, is to shy away from whatever feels unfamiliar or frightening. But is that always the best response? What if, every now and then, we extended an open hand instead of a closed fist?

Because no matter how fast or how far we run, it’s still there. Like the voiceover in an old computer war game commercial once said:

You can run away, but you’ll only die tired.

Or maybe the best thing is not to think too much about it. Just keep living. I don’t know.

But I do know one thing: I’ll probably watch A Star Is Born again before the year is out. ⭐️
