I guess I’m trash
I just listened to a documentary about Dolly Parton. What an icon!
Growing up in a religious home, there were strict rules about what to wear and how to look. One day, while she's in town with her mother, she sees a woman who's broken all those rules. She asks her mother about the woman, who replies that she's trash.
Dolly doesn't understand what her mother means. Trash compared to what? She just sees a beautiful woman and thinks that she would also like to look like that.
In an interview years later, she says, "If this is trash, then I guess I'm trash."
What an awesome approach to life. Being yourself and doing your thing, no matter if others consider it to be trash or treasure.
The world needs more Dollys.
