The limitless you
A woman once told me about the first time she met her friend’s parents. Everyone in the family thought the father looked strange now that the beard he’d had for years was gone. She couldn’t understand it. She had nothing to compare it to, thought he looked handsome, and couldn’t imagine him with a beard.
That moment made her realize something: if she went somewhere where no one knew her or her past, she could be anyone and do anything. The portal to the past closed, and the window to the future opened wide, with a view as bright and fresh as a summer morning.
She lived in Italy and later moved to Hawaii, where she now runs a successful business. Starting over, free from the bonds of time, both her own and others’.
A fresh start!
So many of the limits we feel trapped by exist only in our minds. Past failures, opinions, “good advice” from others, or society’s ideas about how things should or should not be done.
What if we looked more often at the road ahead instead of constantly checking the rearview mirror? What might we find, and where would we end up? Maybe we’d notice that little exit road that’s always been there, just waiting to be seen.
So many possibilities open up when we step outside the image we have of ourselves. Our history and experiences are valuable companions on the journey, but they shouldn’t stop us from turning a dream into reality.
