Little lies

I recently heard one of the saddest things ever. It was in a Swedish television series. A couple is in therapy and the woman turns to her husband and says:

"I miss feeling that I miss you."

So sad. And honest.

Honesty can be hard both to deliver and to face. And sometimes, nothing's really gained by being completely honest. A white lie can be the best option both for the giver and the receiver.

But then there are times when we need to be honest, even though it might hurt. The alternative, not being truthful, will hurt even more in the long run.

But it's hard being honest, so we tell ourselves little lies. Twisting reality a bit, trying to convince ourselves of something that's not quite true. We're doing everything to postpone the inevitable.

But sooner or later we have to be honest, even with the person we’re most terrified of telling the truth:

Ourselves.
