The power of the toothpick
Mai chim fan. Toothpick in Thai.
It was one of the first words I made sure to learn when I came to Thailand. Partly because I knew I would have use for it, but also because it would probably be seen as odd and funny that I knew that particular word.
It turned out to be very true! Over the years, it has led to many smiles, laughs, and small perks. People remember me and greet me happily.
All because of a toothpick.
The same mindset can be applied in all sorts of contexts. Instead of trying to master everything right away, we can focus on a tiny part of it. We can perfect and apply the value of focusing on small, manageable steps.
- Instead of starting the blog "Yet another blog about coffee," we can launch "All about coffee from northern Thailand."
- Instead of launching the shop "Products for a safer home," we can open the store "Beautifully designed fire extinguishers."
- Instead of starting the company "Everything in web design," we could focus on offering "Stylish websites for hairdressers."
By specializing, we can become experts in our niche, cater to specific customer needs, and stand out from the competition. It's about finding that one thing that makes us unique and valuable.
Or maybe we just feel like taking it easy for a while. A long, relaxing vacation, maybe to Thailand. Experiencing that great ease of knowing that there is only one thing we need to learn:
