Say yes more often
For my last house inspection today, I didn’t really need to visit the place. I could’ve done it over the phone. But when I learned that she was going to pick me up in a rowing boat, I said:
“I’m on my way.”
Some might have done it over the phone anyway, just to get home a bit earlier. Personally, I always take the opportunity when these once-in-a-lifetime jobs pop up.
I believe that experiencing new things is one of the most valuable things in life. That’s how we learn and develop. That’s what makes life more fun and inspiring.
It doesn’t have to be a boat ride, just simple everyday experiences.
- If you’re having lunch at the same restaurant every day, at least try a new dish or sit somewhere else.
- Instead of telling the hairdresser how you like it, say, “do whatever you think looks good”.
- Watch a movie you’ve never heard of, from a genre you normally wouldn’t pick, without checking reviews.
Sure, at the end of the day you might end up with a bad haircut, watching a bad movie, and feeling hungry because you didn’t like the food. But it’s worth it.
Why? Because it’s a new experience.
