Robert Birming

It’s a bit of a magical mystery that this blog is still alive, and I’m deeply grateful for that. Grateful for the chance to share my thoughts and connect with both readers and fellow bloggers. It’s a space where I can express myself freely and creatively.

During my 20-plus years as a blogger, I’ve launched and shut down more projects than I can remember. I start something and feel super excited for a while. Then I get bored, quit, and move on to something new. A gadget blog. A wedding proposal video blog. A movie blog. Blogs in Swedish. Blogs in English.

The same old thought pattern has shown up with this blog too, time after time. The big difference is that I haven’t acted on those thoughts telling me to press the “Delete” button.

Why these thoughts appear, I don’t really know. And maybe it’s not that important to know either. What matters more, at least to me, is noticing what’s happening and not acting on that immediate impulse screaming for change. To simply observe, and wait.

Overcoming blogger’s block with stealth blogging

My solution this time was to write privately. I wrote as if it were a blog post, but without any intention of publishing it. A kind of stealth blogging. And it felt surprisingly liberating.

I had an outlet for my creativity and, at the same time, I got to enjoy the technical side of blogging, Markdown and all that stuff I genuinely like. It also felt comforting to know that I could publish those texts later on, if I wanted to. Which I’ve now done with some of them.

Stealth blogging helped me get past my blogging block. It brought back the joy of writing without the pressure of publishing, and it reignited my passion for blogging.

Maybe you’ve thought about shutting down your blog. Or maybe you’ve been thinking about starting one but haven’t quite dared yet. Try stealth blogging. It might be the solution you’re looking for.

It worked for me. At least this time.

Happy blogging, stealth or not.
