Style

The house rules for this blog. Some I follow without thinking, some I'm still working on. The second half shows how everything looks, so it doubles as a test page for my theme.
Writing
Titles and headings
- Sentence case, always. "A lagom life", not "A Lagom Life".
- Short beats clever.
Punctuation
- No em dashes. Ever.
- A spaced en dash – like this – is fine, but sparingly.
- No semicolons. Two sentences work just as well.
- The Oxford comma stays: posts, pages, and everything in between.
Words
- Plain words over fancy ones. If I wouldn't say it out loud, I don't write it.
- Dates in prose are day first: 16 February 2023.
- Swedish words get to stay Swedish, with a short explanation if needed. Lagom, fika, lussebulle.
Links
- The link text says where it goes: my stats, not "click here".
- Link generously. The web is more fun when we actually link to each other.
Quotes
- Longer quotes go in a blockquote, with the name in bold on its own last line.
- Shorter ones stay in the sentence, in “curly quotes”.
Design
Fonts
- Text and headings: Schibsted Grotesk, loaded from jsDelivr. No Google Fonts.
- Code: the system's own monospace font.

Text
Regular text with italics, bold, a strikethrough, inline code, and a highlight. Here's a link to the blog, and a footnote for good measure.2
Lists
- Fresh air and a small idea
- A blank page
- A margin doodle or two
- A blog that feels like home
- Brew something nice.
- Open Bear.
- Publish. Smile. Repeat.
Quotes
Write like no one's reading. Someone will, eventually.

Images

A caption is just an italic line right under the image.
Image markers I use: #screenshot for a thin border, #badge for flat buttons, #gallery for a photo grid with a lightbox, and #avatar in the header.

Why do bears blog?
Mostly for the same reasons you do: to think out loud, to remember things later, and to feel a little less alone in the process.
Code

That's the house style. Rules are there to be broken, but only on purpose.
