I stumbled upon a quote by Vincent van Gogh today:
Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.
So well said! I agree with Sam Radford, when he writes, "starting small is still starting, and small beginnings can lead to significant endings."
It's easy to forget, or not even realize, that behind every so called overnight success lies a series of endless days and nights. A multitude of small steps, failures, and doubts.
To make a mundane comparison: I am not a professional developer, and my knowledge when it comes to web design is very limited. If someone else had created the Bearming theme and I saw it in its current form, with all the ’add-ons’ and ’palettes’, I would think:
"I could never do that!"
And it's true, I couldn't. Not if I initially had the idea of creating what it is today. It would feel overwhelming, both due to my lack of knowledge and because I have a full-time job inspecting houses.
It started with the small step of wanting to change some colors on Bear's default theme. There was no plan whatsoever to make it into something that others could use. But after many small steps - and a fair amount of googling - it has become what it is today.
As I said, perhaps a silly comparison, and the theme is neither revolutionary nor sensational. But it’s still about the same old truth:
Behind every creation lies a lot of creating.
