The upside of downtime
At the time of writing this, my blog isn’t accessible via robertbirming.com due to some technical issue with the platform. I’m sure Herman, the creator behind it, is already on the case.
In my email to him, I wrote: on the bright side, weekends are the best time for custom domains to go down. I was referring to the fact that there’s usually less activity then.
And over at my micro blog, I posted:
Bear is down for some custom domains, including mine. I’ll take it as a sign that running two blogs was the right choice 😊
Even if both my post and email were written with a hint of humor, they were still true. The downtime also made me shift focus to some things I’d been neglecting.
What I’m getting at is that there’s usually a way to turn something seemingly “bad” into something “good”.
It might seem like a trivial example. Some platform downtime isn’t the end of the world, of course. But seeing things from the bright side isn’t really about the size of the problem, but how you choose to see it.
It’s a choice. It’s a mindset. It’s a perspective.
Even downtime has its upsides.
