The writer's engine

After a few weeks' break, I've returned to reading books.

I don't recall what caused the interruption, but I remember how difficult it felt to resume the habit. It felt much easier to simply turn on the TV and half-heartedly watch a documentary or familiar movie.

Now, I pick up a book whenever I have a moment. I'm immediately immersed in the story, finding the whole experience both relaxing and inspiring.

When it comes to writing, though, I've managed to maintain it without interruption so far. However, the same principles apply to both reading and writing: after a break, it's significantly harder to get started.

Creativity demands attention and maintenance. We must nurture it as we would with a car. If neglected, it will rust, falter, and lose its value.

Writing is something very valuable, whether done privately or for an audience. Cherish it as the precious treasure it is. Even if it's just a few words.

Turn the key and let the engine idle; that's enough to keep things running smoothly.
