"If I were you, I would..."
Do you ever hear that? I think it’s such an incredibly stupid thing to say. If you were me, which you clearly aren’t, then you’d do something that I, as me, wouldn’t do.
Some might say it’s just a figure of speech. I beg to differ.
To me, it often sounds like the person saying it has a bunch of their own stuff they haven’t dealt with. Instead of facing that, they get a brief, fake sense of “I’ve got my shit together” by telling others what they should do.
