Bearming bulletin 2

The main focus for the latest version of the Bearming theme has been optimization. Both when it comes to readability and how things are coded.

But there have been quite a few additions and tweaks as well. If you’re interested, here are some of the most recent updates.

Extras

At the very end, you’ll find a few options to further personalize the theme.

To activate any of these tiny gems, simply uncomment the style (remove the /* and */ around it), and you’re all done.

The gallery styles included now give you a nice grid even if you don’t use the lightbox version. And if you link the images to the full version, like [![Description](https://your-photo.jpg)](https://your-photo.jpg), you’ll get a gallery that works totally fine in all its simplicity. No need for a script.

Post navigation

If you’re using the Bear previous and next post feature, styles are included for that as well. Simply add this to your footer directive, <div class="post-nav">{{ previous_post }} {{ next_post }}</div>, and you’re good to go, to the next post, and the next, and the next.

Copy button

Styles for the copy button script are now included by default. It’s a handy little feature if you’re sometimes sharing code snippets on your blog. Easy for you, nice for your readers.

Other changes

With the previous major release of Bearming, I introduced “knobs” to make it easy for anyone to basically tune anything. This quickly became very difficult to manage. Currently, there are no plans to reintroduce it (I’m not even sure if anyone used it).

There are currently no additional palettes to choose from. I’ve only focused on improving the default one. I might add a couple of options later on.

Bear archive tweaks styles are no longer included in the theme. I’m currently not using the script myself, but it’s still available if you want to give it a try. I’ve also included some basic styles you can use as a starting point.

The add-ons page is still available, but I’ve removed the link from the Bearming landing page. I haven’t been able to make up my mind about the approach for it. Knowing myself, I’ll probably be back there soon, tinkering and fiddling.

So, that’s all for this Bearming update. Check out the style guide if you want to see how things look.

No matter what theme or platform you’re using, happy blogging.
